Safeguarding Adults and Children

Safeguarding Adults and Children

All staff working in the health service has a duty to protect the health and wellbeing of patients and colleagues. It is a fundamental human right to live a life free from abuse, harm and neglect. Abuse can take many forms, such as financial, emotional, sexual, physical or discriminatory. Abuse can take place anywhere in the home, at work, in a care home or in a hospital. Those most at risk from abuse are children, young people and adults with learning difficulties or those receiving care in their own home.  Safeguarding is a shared responsibility requiring joint working with agencies and professional bodies. This collaborative approach helps to identify and reduce risk of harm to vulnerable people.  Good and effective healthcare must have measures in place to protect the patient/service user from abuse, neglect and harm.
